Indonesia travel guide

I travelled to Bali, Indonesia in October 2009 with Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The flight arrived really late, which is not advisable, as most hotels in Kuta, Bali were full when I arrived. Although the airport is very close to Kuta, the taxi ride was a little pricy at 50,000 Rupees. The airport is also terrible (see this blog post!)

Kuta is a bit of a hell whole of Australians getting drunk and shop owners, tour operators and taxi drivers giving you hassle. Head out to Lombok for a quieter time with nicer beaches. Just don’t do it my way. I got a taxi to the ferry port which is a significant distance from Kuta, just because I didn’t trust the tour operators. They sell trips to Lombok for around 350,000 Rupees, but the taxi alone was 300,000. The ferry is very cheap at 16,000. Once on the other side in Lombok, I paid a further 80,000 to get to the beautiful deserted Sengigi beach.

I got a proper tour operator to take me back with everything included for 100,000 Rupees which was obviously a million times better than doing it myself. From Sengigi you can get to the Gili islands. again, get a proper tour from Kuta rather than try to do it all yourself. Its a tough experience because of all the hassle you will get from boat operators etc.
