Bolivia travel guide and photos

Set in the heart of the Andes with much of the country resting on a huge flat plain at 4000m above sea level, Bolivia is a tough country to visit. Compounded by extreme poverty, the lack of air makes the pace of life slow, and seems to add a greying of colours to everything in La Paz, which is really not a pretty city. Once out of La Paz however, and your appreciation of Bolivia will soar. Take one of the extreme mountain bike tours – either down death road or the alternative route through a hydro electric area owned by the Kiwis.

The alternative route will help you to truly appreciate this stunning country. At the top of a 6000m peak, you begin next to an orangy-purple lake which supplies the population of La Paz with water. Down bear brown and grey rocks, there is little to see except the metal
pipes of the hydro plants.

The salt flats are equally awe-inspiring. Mile after mile of white flat land – under which lays some of the worlds largest deposits of Lithium. Unfortunately, I ran out of time in Bolivia, so have no photos to show you just yet of the Bolivian salt flats.
