I visited Argentina during December 2009 and spent a few days in Mendoza, across the border from Chile, and the capital Buenos Aires. Mendoza is wine country, and is a fantastic place to taste some of Argentina’s tasty wines. There aren’t many great places to stay in Mendoza with the exception of the beautiful and fun Hostel Loa. This is near the coach station in the centre of Mendoza. Coaches to Buenos Aires run very frequently from the main coach station. Travel with Cata International, as I did, and experience lie-flat beds, food and champagne, plus TVs in your seat for less than the price of a hotel room for the night (around 250pesos).
I spent Christmas in Buenos Aires which was great fun. I stayed in 3 hostels – Kaixo, Millhouse and Sabatico Hostel. Millhouse is only really recommended if you like partying. It’s crazy with parties and loud music every night. Kaixo was my favourite for meeting people. We had a great time at a Drum festival and for christmas dinner. Sabatico was a little sterile, but had really comfy beds.
