Chicago from the South

Chicago was one of my must see cities on the list during our US Road Trip, so I was pretty excited to leave Canada behind and continue our trip back into the US. We drove around the edge of lake Michigan from our overnight stay in Grand Rapids, and into Chicago from the south on the I90. The drive in is great as the Chicago skyline slowly creeps toward you with the Willis/Sears and John Hancock towers visible from perhaps 20 miles away.

First stop, we drove to the very centre of Chicago to Congress Parkway – next to the Buckingham fountain – to our home for 5 days – the Chicago Hostelling International youth hostel. Once we were unpacked, we headed up to Chicago o’hare airport where we’d booked some cheap valet parking to get rid of the car. The we headed back on the famous Chicago metro downtown to ‘the Loop’ – the central raised loop of track around which all the metros eventually end up.
