Pushkar is a small spiritual town in Rajasthan, famous for it’s enormous mountain lake with over 50 temples with bathing ghats and camel festival. Pushkar is around a 3 hour bus ride from Jaipur and is well worth visiting for a few days – if only to escape the pollution of the big cities. Most attractively – Pushkar is tuk-tuk and car free around the centre – leaving the town with a sense of calm, and hassle-free (from cabbies at least) for visitors.

Travelling to Pushkar from Jaipur
I visited Pushkar on a day trip by coach from Jaipur. The company is called Jai Amblay and, while the coach was clean and took me there and back safely, the journey was very frustrating. The coach should be an express coach, but the driver stops at ever small stop on the way and takes money from other people. This means the journey takes 5 hours, not 3 and is so full you may have to stand. A fight almost broke out at one point between one guy and the driver who told me after that he was taking bribes to kick his children out of seats. This is unfortunately very common in India so beware.
